“Every item shaped by human hands is a tangible reality. These items are a playful insight into time and culture; they reflect a specific era. They let us travel in time.” – Raine Borg
Raine Borg is an engineer and ethnologist with a PhD in aesthetics. He is also a member of the ASSA ABLOY Lock Group. He is knowledgeable in the history of locks and has been a collector of historical locks since 1963.
It all began in 1962 when Raine Borg was visiting Prague and bought a wrought-iron door key in a curio shop as a souvenir. The key was an artful object of beauty with a complex bit that aroused his curiosity. Raine wondered about the lock that the key opened so he started investigating, studying, and researching the history of locks and keys.
He soon became the fascinated with locks so much that he started a collection of historical locks.
Raine now has an impressive collection of locks and keys. His collection of collector’s items, plus his constant studying of available literature on the subject, and visiting museums all over Europe, Asia, and the United States, has made him something of an expert in this field.
A padlock is a lock that hangs freely from its shackle while holding together the rings or staples on a door, box, or chest. Curiously, in the annals of language, the word padlock comes from the Middle English padlok, but the meaning of the root pad is unknown. In most Germanic languages, the name is simply hang lock, in Swedish hanglas, Danish haengelaas or haengelas, German Vorhangeschloss. The same is true of the Finnish word riippulukko, while the French word cadenas comes from the Latin catena, meaning chain.
It is probable that Raine Borg’s influence must have somehow rubbed of some locksmith apprentices taking a college course in locksmithing. Perhaps some of them would go on to become top-notch and professional locksmiths in ; employment and now can offer top-of-the-line and quality locksmithing wherever customers need a locksmith service.
Mobile24 is one company that can make Raine Borg proud of the continuing professional tradition of locksmithing.
